Midhurst Engineering has been a family owned business since John Poate founded it in the
early 1900's, passing into the ownership of three generations of the Visick family and becoming a limited company
in 1947. The business is currently owned and managed by the Morgan family.
In the early days the business was mainly general and agricultural engineering, including the servicing of
stationary engines. After 1926 under the Visicks' the repair and sale of motorcars and petrol became the
main part of the business, including a breakdown service.
Today, the Company no longer
sells petrol but provides a complete range of motoring services consisting of
vehicle servicing, maintenance, MOT's, engine diagnostics, accident repair, roadside assistance
and recovery.
The major part of business activity is our 24 hour Roadside Assistance and Recovery service. We
work as part of the network of breakdown specialists to almost all of the motoring clubs and insurance
companies in the UK and also to Sussex Police under contract through AADL.
We have invested heavily in technology to ensure first-class communication
channels are available to rapidly deploy rescue vehicles to the scene of any incident.
Operating a complete range of modern recovery vehicles from bases in Midhurst and Petersfield,
our fleet currently includes tilt and slide bed transporters, spectacle lifts and a
fully equipped accident recovery unit complete with 16.5 tonne metre lorry loader crane and damage free lifting
cradle.
Six vehicles of our recovery fleet are fitted with satellite navigation equipment and in-cab computer
terminals synchronized with control room information to avoid distracting voice messages to the driver.
Midhurst Engineering is committed to the highest standards of service and customer
satisfaction with feedback indicating these goals are being achieved. The company is ISO 9001-2000 compliant and
PAS 43 certified. We continue to strive to implement best practice
and to adhere to recovery industry guidelines, both legal and advisory. This is a continuing process with the
company currently holding a number of accreditations and affiliations.
We have successfully retained our contract to supply services to Sussex Police for the immediate future and consequently upgraded
our front line Accident Unit. The Company provides to the Police force
separate exclusive under cover facilities for forensic vehicle examination and crash investigations.
We were able to take the Industry forward, by sponsoring and participating in the
filming of a roadside and recovery safe working procedures video, "Life On The Edge 6",
produced in 2003 by the Institute of Vehicle Recovery in conjunction with all the main Motoring Organisations.
The film is now used as part of structured training sessions and we are proud of our contribution
to this worthy project. |
